Topic-wise Tips for Next Year's Vigyan Aviksha
Maths: Six of the first twenty questions (Q4, Q5, Q11, Q16, Q18 and Q19) were about perimeter and area of squares, rectangles and triangles. Learn those formulas well and practise a few word problems every day. Fractions and decimals are the next big group, so keep your tables sharp.
Science: Metals and non-metals came up again and again in Q34 and Q41 to Q45. Make a short chart of properties like lustre, malleability and ductility, with one example for each. For motion, try to match real-life examples, such as a pendulum or a clock hand, with the right type of movement.
General awareness: The last five questions rewarded students who read beyond the textbook. Spend some time on the life of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy, West Bengal's national parks, and the state animal and other state symbols.
How to Use This Paper for Practice
Set a timer for 90 minutes and attempt the paper without looking at the key. Then mark your answers and go through every mistake. Most students find that careless errors in the maths section cost them more marks than the hard questions do.
Since each wrong answer costs half a mark, rule out the options you know are wrong before you guess. Practising with the previous paper of the Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy Vigyan Aviksha is the easiest way to get used to this pressure. You can also browse more papers in our question paper archive.
