Overview of the Role

The NTPC (Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) recruitment drive aims to fill the administrative, commercial and operational support functions within Indian Railways. This recruitment is covered under two Centralised Employment Notices (CEN) namely CEN No. 06/2025 for Graduate positions (18-33 Years) and CEN No. 07/2025 for Under Graduate positions (18-30 Years, as on 01.01.2026)

We require willing and committed candidates to fill 8850 tentative vacancies across all Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) of which the Graduate posts are 5800 and Under Graduate posts are 3050.

Primary Roles (Key Responsibilities) | Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC)

The functions of NTPC play a crucial role in the normal operations of railway services, trade as well as internal management. Important duties can be:

  1. Traffic and Operations Control: The control of the movement and control of goods or passenger trains (e.g., Station Master, Goods Train Manager).
  2. Commercial Supervision: This is the control and management of commercial operations, sales of tickets and personnel (e.g., Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor).
  3. Clerical and Administrative Support: Doing routine documentation, filing, and ensuring that senior officials (i.e., Junior/Senior Clerk cum Typist).
  4. Financial Accounting: Keeping and maintaining financial records, payrolls, and documentation of accounts (e.g. Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, Accounts Clerk Cum Typist).
  5. Direct Customer Interaction: Must engage directly with the people to do ticketing, inquiries, and customer service (e.g., Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk).
  6. Data Entry and Typing: It involves dealing with jobs that need typing and data handling skills that are also known as typists.
  7. Traffic Flow Assistance: Helping rail traffic to move and document efficiently (e.g. Traffic Assistant, Trains Clerk).

Skills Required and Preferred | Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC)

While specific skills will be elaborated the Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) as the document describes, certain core competencies will be required based on the specific available posts

  • Typing Skills. Necessary requirement for all the posts classified as typist and below (Junior/Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, Accounts Clerk Cum Typist).
  • Administrative Skills. Should be able to keep records, prepare and manage files and perform clerical work with reasonable accuracy.
  • Commercial Skills. Should possess knowledge of a ticketing system, able to interface with the public, and participate in the sales of services (required for the Commercial and Ticketing posture).
  • High level of control. Necessary for the post and for all duties with a high element of control, (Station Master, Goods Train Manager).

Selected candidates will be compensated as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) standards. Initial pay varies based on the Pay Level assigned to the specific post:

  1. Go to the corresponding Railway Recruitment Board website depending upon your choice of region (ex: www.rrbmumbai.gov.in, www.rrbchennai.gov.in, etc.) that is mentioned in the official notifications.
  2. Applications should be made by first reading the detailed CEN notifications No. 06/2025 (Graduate) and 07/2025 (Undergraduate).
  3. Enter information in the online application form correctly, and personal information like Aadhaar should be identical to the education certificates.
  4. Submit the necessary documents as desired and pay the application fee via the internet.
  5. Send the application prior to the above-mentioned closing date.
  6. Record a copy of the application and payment receipt to be referred to later.

Q1: Where can I access the detailed notification ( CEN)?

This current notification serves a purely indicative purpose. Q2: Are candidates allowed to submit the application in person

No. Applications should be submitted ONLY USING THE ONLINE PORTAL.

Q3: What should be kept in mind about the primary details?

Aadhaar is the document that is most commonly used to validate primary details in the application. To avoid any kind of delays in the verification process, please crosscheck whether the details of the Aadhaar such as the Name and Date of Birth is in sync with the Tenth class pass certificate.

Q4: Does my Aadhaar need to be updated?

Yes. You need to have updated Aadhaar which includes the most recent photograph and the latest biometrics (Finger and Iris) before commencement of the application.
