Exam Structure & Scoring Simplified

JECA-2025 will be an OMR based Common Entrance Test which will comprise of a single paper. Questions will all be Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) with four choices and the paper will be in English alone. The test will take you 2 hours.

The question paper pattern and marking is broken down here:

Category-ICategory-IITotal Number of QuestionsTotal Marks
No.of Q. 80No.of Q. 20100120
(-ve marks = -1/4)(No -ve marks)

Category-I Questions: Each correct answer will be marked out of 1 mark. Nevertheless, watch out – on each wrong response, 1/4th will be deducted (negative 25 percent marking). There will also be a -1/4 mark when more than one option is selected although one of them is correct.

Category-II Questions: This is multi-correct MCQ. You earn 2 marks in case you mark all correct options. You will fail to get any mark when you highlight any wrong option. In the case of partially correct answers (some correct answers indicated, none incorrect) the marks are earned according to proportion: 2 (no. of correct answers indicated/ no. of actually correct answers). Negative marking is not possible in this category.

Unattempted: 0 marks will be granted in case of question that you do not attempt.

Answering Mode: You will answer using a special specially designed Optical Machine-Readable (OMR) sheet. The most important thing is to check your answers by filling the respective circle with black blue/black ball point pen to full capacity. Do not use incomplete fillings, pencils, or any other marks such as crosses or dots because this may result in wrong reading or cancellation of your OMR sheet. After it is marked, the responses cannot be edited, altered or deleted.

Your Rank and How It’s Determined

The WBJEEB will produce merit ranks on the basis of your test score. A score and a rank will be provided to you on a Rank Card, which can be seen and downloaded separately. Confidentiality is provided by the Board not to publish public rank/score lists.

The rank that you will have as your main one will be the General merit rank (GMR) which will depend on the marks in descending order. Reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC-Category-A, OBC-Category-B, EWS and PwD will also be denoted by separate merit positions.

Most importantly, counselling and seat assignment will be done exclusively on your GMR and not by your category ranks. The ranks of category are informational. When your category claim is invalidated in the process of document verification, you will be cancelled in your category rank and will be regarded in the general category in future counselling rounds.

Breaking the Ties

Where any tie occurs in marks, the rules below will be followed in the given order:

  1. Fewer bad marks in questions in Category-I.
  2. Increased number of marks in the questions of Category-II.
  3. Date of Birth (DOB): The candidate of more advanced age will be preferred.
  4. Application Number: When there is still a tie, the candidate that has applied earlier (with lower number of application) will be preferred.

Eligibility Criteria and Document Verification

You should be a Citizen of India to apply and must have passed/appeared in an Undergraduate Level and final Semester Examination. See APPENDIX-9, in detail, regarding admission eligibility.

It is also important to realize that your Admit Card and Rank Card are issued depending on the information you have provided. All verifications are carried out by the assigned Institute throughout and following counselling. In the event that any information you submitted is false or even that you do not present valid documents when verifying then it will affect your candidature to the extent that you may not be eligible to hold some seats or even cancellation of admission despite you having been given a merit rank.

The Importance of Domicile in West Bengal
